Vernal can make a difference in the world and the students of Uintah High School are showing us the way.
On Friday, February 15, from 8:41 am to 9:19 am
, essentially an extended first period, 1,900 students will be involved in a service project. The UHS Student Council put this service project together with the Utah-based nonprofit group Stitching Hearts Worldwide (SHW). Stitching Hearts Worldwide is an organization that provides the equipment and materials for all sized groups to make humanitarian relief items that will be sent to those displaced from their homes because of fire, natural disasters, and political unrest around the world. The students will aid in turning donated plastic grocery bags into sleeping mats. The community has also played a role in preparing for this service project by donating a massive amount of plastic bags to the cause. The mats will be given to refugees and the homeless in countries like Jordan and Bangladesh through another nonprofit organization.
