With one less week between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year, the volunteers behind the local Sub For Seniors program were feeling the crunch this week. Amazingly, enough donations came in and the teams of volunteers were able to deliver the goodies to local senior citizens on Thursday. Marathon Petroleum has been a major supporter of the Sub For Seniors program and, in addition to being one of the main sponsors, they showed up in force on Thursday to get the deliveries done. There were 6 delivery teams with 4 to 5 people per van, explains program coordinator Tiffany Henline. The crews had the vans loaded by 10:30am and deliveries were made into the afternoon with everyone meeting back at the Golden Age Center by 3:00 pm. “Some people cried. Many people thanked us profusely saying that it was the only Christmas they would receive this year,” shares Henline. “It’s always so humbling and heartwarming. Overall, it was a really fantastic day surrounded by wonderful people who all share a passion for our forgotten seniors. We are proud to be part of this effort and thankful that our community stepped up to help us provide that for them.” This year’s effort was able to deliver 265 bags of goodies and gifts to homebound and sometimes forgotten members of the community.
