Uintah County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release over the weekend reporting that deputies responded to an incident on Saturday when a report of a reckless driver around the Gusher area was received at about 3:30pm. The vehicle in question happened to match the description of a vehicle that was involved in an incident with a Utah Highway Patrol trooper during a traffic stop earlier. The vehicle was spotted by Deputy Dan Bruso and he engaged his emergency lights to intercept when the driver crashed into the patrol vehicle. The driver kept pressing on the accelerator spinning the pickup truck’s tires. The driver was a 60-year-old Vernal man who abruptly surrendered and was taken into custody without incident. Deputies believe the man was suffering from a mental health crisis based on his statements and actions. He was taken to Uintah Basin Medical Center in Roosevelt for evaluation. The driver’s name is not being released at this time.
