After months of behind the scenes work, it’s official. An agreement is in place and the Hotel Vernal Haunt will scare up funds for local charities for a second year this coming October. “Last year’s Haunt was an overwhelming success,” shares Vernal City Manager Quinn Bennion. “The first year event provided spooks to 7,000 visitors and scared up $48,000 to fund local charities…This year’s benefitting groups are Uintah County Search & Rescue, Drug Court, Rotary Club literacy program, and Charitable Friends of Ashley Valley.” The Haunt will run for a total of 10 days, primarily on weekends, and the organizing committee has added a feature to the experience. “New this year will be an escape room,” shares Bennion. “You and your group of friends or family can attempt to escape the room before the haunting hour.” Volunteers will again be needed this year and help with room construction, make-up, actors, security, and set-up is welcome and appreciated. The Organizing Committee is also currently looking for sponsors. For more information, visit
