Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office is defusing rumors about a situation where a handgun was confiscated from a student on Altamont school property. On Thursday, February 14, the Altamont High School principal confiscated a handgun from a student in the school parking lot before classes started for the day. “Deputies learned that the principal spotted two students ‘spinning doughnuts’ in their vehicles in the school’s back parking lot before classes began,” shares the Sheriff’s Office. “When he went to talk to them, the principal saw one of the students inside a vehicle holding a pistol. The principal quickly approached the student and confiscated a handgun without incident. The students were brought to the office where deputies and their parents were called.” The Sheriff’s Office explains that because the incident was quickly resolved and because it happened before school had started for the day, none of the schools were placed on lockdown and “there was no threat to teachers, students, or staff at either school.” The incident remains under investigation by the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office.
