The new school year is officially here and TriCounty Health has some tips to consider when it comes to youth and mental health. Local numbers from the SHARP Survey show that 76 percent of local youth report moderate to high depressive symptoms and 51 percent of local youth stated they do not feel comfortable seeking help or talking to someone about it. TriCounty Health’s tips for parents is to truly make time for their kids, yes, even your teens. Ask them how they are doing and just listen. Youth Mental Health First Aid class is available to teach parents the signs and symptoms of mental illness and how to assist when needed. To sign up for a local class, call 435-725-6334.
