This year’s Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo Legendary Cowboy is Lorin Merkley of Vernal. If the name doesn’t sound familiar that may because you know him as “Pudge”, his nickname of over 85 years. Pudge has raised and cared for livestock and other animals his entire life. He is a graduate of Uintah High School where he served as student body president. After high school he served in the National Guard and married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Siddoway. They were married for 63 years and raised three wonderful children. Beverly passed away in 2014. Pudge remarried three years ago and he and his bride Alice Wilson live in Maeser. Pudge is now 89 years old and has served the community in many capacities for decades. In 1958, he was among those that signed the application to take the Vernal rodeo into the PRCA. Pudge served as the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo President in 1962 as well as many other years on the rodeo committee. Congratulations to Lorin “Pudge” Merkley, this year’s Legendary Cowboy!
